HISTORY

LionTamers Anonymous began in l980 when two ladies waiting for the church services to begin at Fullerton Evangelical Free Church looked at each other and wondered out loud whether this church had a 12-step recovery program.  One of the ladies was still very active in her addiction and the other had about three years of sobriety.  They asked one of the pastors; he was not aware of a recovery program for alcoholics or other compulsive disorders, but would be willing to meet with them and discuss the idea.  The church had always been open to new programs and believed that, with the proper leadership, training and the Power of the Holy Spirit’s leading, new programs could be successful.

I joined LionTamers shortly after it started and because of the years of my sobriety became the leader for the next 15 years.  We ministered to substance abusers, co-dependents, adult survivors of dysfunctional families and also had a children’s recovery program.

Since then I retired from education after 32 years and moved out of the Fullerton area to Hemet, California, where I have been involved in personal ministry when the need arises.  My wife and I now belong to Valley Evangelical Free Church of Hemet.

This past April 2005 I, with two others, resurrected the LionTamers Anonymous recovery program at Valley Evangelical Free Church (VEFC).
