OUR PHILOSOPHY

LionTamers Anonymous is a practical demonstration of the Biblical command that believers, "bear one another’s burdens, and thus fulfill the law of Christ" (Galatians 6:2).  We realize that many Christians find themselves trapped in a personal or family nightmare due to addictions, compulsions and obsessions and other dysfunctions which result in fear, guilt, anger and despair. The natural response is usually to withdraw from others, especially within the church, and to deny the effects of the battle which they wage in self-imposed isolation.

We are called to be people of encouragement, empowered by the Spirit of God.  LionTamers is a fellowship of Christians who have personally discovered the value of “confessing our sins to one another so that we may be healed” (James5:16).  We are willing to be vulnerable about our struggles because we know that help comes by talking about the "unspeakable."  We also know how important it is to experience acceptance and love when we feel unaccepted and unloved.

For some people, healing from afflictions comes quickly from the Lord.  For most, however, it is a long and difficult struggle.  A person who suffers from addictions, compulsions, or obsessions can affect at least thirty people around them.  For many men and women, the nightmare of dependency is not a personal struggle but a family problem. The same sense of loneliness, inadequacy, anger and fear of the future that plague the dependent person is common to family members as well.

The loving support and genuine caring of fellow LionTamers, coupled with a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus, equips us to cope with life, whatever the circumstances.  We welcome anyone who desires to be sober and free from dependency, anyone who “desires to rise above the pain and turmoil created by the addiction of a family member.”  We are here to share our experiences, strength, and hope with one another.

We practice the suggested 12-step recovery program of Alcoholics Anonymous because we believe these steps to be the practical application of Biblical principles.  However, we do not hesitate to clarify that the “Power greater than ourselves” is no option for us – He is the only true God revealed in the Bible.

Our main focus and desire is to live in peace with ourselves, our families, each other and especially with our heavenly Father.
